Four new draft Conservation Area Appraisals have been prepared by Lewes District Council including Chailey Green. The draft Appraisals and associated Appraisal Maps are availabe on :
http://www.lewes.gov.uk/planning/1097.asp
The current draft stage of their production enables local people to participate in the identification of features that are important to the character of the area in which they live or work. Local involvement is an essential aspect of the consultation process and local residents are encouraged to comment on the draft documents. Following this consultation period, any appropriate revisions will be made before the Conservation Area Appraisals are endorsed by the Council and published. Please ensure that any comments are received in writing by Friday 30 April 2010.

CHAILEY BRICKWORKS -
East Sussex County Council (ESCC) and Ibstock Brick Ltd are currently undertaking a review of the planning conditions attached to the consents for the Chailey site. This is a Periodic Review of the previous minerals permissions and will result in up to date planning conditions for working and restoration of the site relevant to modern environmental standards. In addition to the statutory locations directed by East Sussex County Council, Ibstock has made available a copy of the Environmental Statement and Non Technical Summary for inspection at the offices of Chailey brickworks (10am to 4pm) during the consultation period which ran to 19.3.2010. Details of the review have been circulated by Ibstock Brick Ltd to 37 properties in the vicinity of the Chailey site. The parish council’s representation was discussed at the meeting of the Chailey Planning & Environs Committee on
ESCC WASTE AND MINERALS PLANNING CONSULTATION - Newick/Pitdown landraise site proposal
The consultation period is now over. ESCC released the following statement on 2nd March 2010.
'Around three thousand representations have been received. The majority of the representations are concerned with Land Disposal as well as the proposed use of the existing mineral extraction site at Ashdown Brickworks.
A document will now be prepared which includes a co-ordinated response to all the representations. Anyone who has sent in a representation will automatically be notified when the publication of this document takes place. Anyone who did not send in a representation but would like to receive notification of key stages of the preparation of the Core Strategy can register with the Council. http://www.eastsussex.gov.uk/environment/planning/development/mineralsandwaste/consultees.htm
Further technical work will now be undertaken by officers, which, amongst other things, will assess matters that have been drawn to our attention by the representations. A further dialogue on the way forward for land disposal will be needed although this is unlikely to take place before the summer.
The programme for preparing the Waste and Minerals Core Strategy (as set out in the Council’s published ‘Minerals and Waste Development Scheme’) is currently being reviewed to take into account extensions to the consultation period and the need to investigate issues that have been brought to our attention during the consultation'.
