ESCC WASTE AND MINERALS PLANNING CONSULTATION - Newick/Pitdown landraise site proposal
On 4th January 2010 over 300 residents attended a meeting orgainsed by the Vale of Sussex Society and Newick Parish Council to discuss the current East Sussex County Council consultation on waste and minerals. The proposals include consideration of a 25 hectare landraise waste site between Newick and Piltdown east of Gold Bridge on the south side of the A272. A report on the meeting is provided on this website - click on the Landraise Meeting Report box opn the left hand navigation bar.

The consultation period is now over. ESCC released the following statement on 2nd March 2010.

'Around three thousand representations have been received. The majority of the representations are concerned with Land Disposal as well as the proposed use of the existing mineral extraction site at Ashdown Brickworks.

A document will now be prepared which includes a co-ordinated response to all the representations. Anyone who has sent in a representation will automatically be notified when the publication of this document takes place. Anyone who did not send in a representation but would like to receive notification of key stages of the preparation of the Core Strategy can register with the Council. http://www.eastsussex.gov.uk/environment/planning/development/mineralsandwaste/consultees.htm

Further technical work will now be undertaken by officers, which, amongst other things, will assess matters that have been drawn to our attention by the representations. A further dialogue on the way forward for land disposal will be needed although this is unlikely to take place before the summer.

The programme for preparing the Waste and Minerals Core Strategy (as set out in the Council’s published ‘Minerals and Waste Development Scheme’) is currently being reviewed to take into account extensions to the consultation period and the need to investigate issues that have been brought to our attention during the consultation'.
